Bjarke Ingels: 3 warp-speed architecture tales

Danish architect Bjarke Ingels rockets through photo/video-mingled stories of his eco-flashy designs. His buildings not only look like nature — they act like nature: blocking the wind, collecting solar energy — and creating stunning views.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world’s leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the “Sixth Sense” wearable tech, and “Lost” producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. everything they do is literal. BIG is awesome because Bjarke can sell a book to a person that can't read. He's mainly a business man and a great communicator. The office produces simple iconic buildings rather than complex architecture designs.

I feel sorry for you that you can't appreciate the art, workmanship, and thought that went into the projects he describes.

that one is just a concept though, and concept designs are always too literal.

can't say for sure but it's most likely done in adobe flash. Same with the one @ 16:00, I am sure they used Lumion for the short walkthrough that follows that one

He has an annoying habit of emphasizing every second or third word with a heavy stress on the vowels, I can't listen to anymore.!!!

Pretty much everyone from Denmark does this when they speak English or Danish, so I have gotten used to it

    Yes it is annoying.

In Denmark the ones teaching english developed their pronunciation when the primary contact was text based, or in songs. So unfortunately all the grammar, and habits from sentence construction and for emphasizing have been transferred to verbal English.

The younger generation is much more exposed to American television, and have less tendency to do this. Also it is worse in Copenhagen than in the rest of Denmark, perhaps because the local dialect is further from English..

Architecture school can be very disapointing at times so it's good to listen to people like Bjarke Ingels from time to time to remind myself why I'm majoring in Architecture and not something else. Great speech, very inspiring!

The fact that they saved their proyect because "they might be right for another client or culture" seems awesome… but shipping a statue, hundreds of bikes and hundreds of gallons of water from DENMARK to CHINA seems like he can't stop reaching for a single minute. Mountain dwellings gives ZERO answers to site matters, it's just a mountain in a sea of tiny houses. And if you dont believe me you can check on google earth. i mean, please… bjarke is amazing but opportunism and propaganda at its finest
