Concealing a Garage

Cars are among the largest physical objects we own, which helps us rationalize the generous square footage we allocate to them on our property and in our homes. Because of their size, they’re not an easy aesthetic problem to solve. Architects and designers have always struggled with how best to orient the mass and large footprint of the garage. Detached, connected, trellised, to the side, to the rear, beneath — every possible location requires compromise.

In this video I discuss various strategies to conceal the garage. In hopes that we can move beyond arriving to the garage door rather than the porch or the front door.

In my area nearly every house looks like a garage with a house attached to it lol, hate it.
I have 2 double garages one on either side of my entry which is in the centre.
I have a large 1 bedroom apartment above and then the main house is on one level at the back with a central courtyard, works beautifully.

The first one is definitely my favorite, I really like the clean crisp design that pretty much hides the garage and also allows external space for washing of cars.

Good day so what if you would like to make the cars a key feature? Example would be driving past a house and seeing three super expensive cars as you drive past. What would the restrictions be regarding for example glass doors but how would one compliment the cars to the house?

    Hope to hear from you.

    Thank you for the video.
