Designing and Building a Modern Bench – Woodworking Projects

Our porch needed a bench. I rectified the problem. Admittedly, the design probably works better as a coffee table. That said, it is made out of cherry wood and features lots of weird angles. Please watch, enjoy, subscribe and share. Thanks!

Hey Chris! How do you calculate all your angles for your projects? I mean, how do you know that you will need this or that angle?

Intelligent woodworking. I must say, I so envy you your workshop: as a slightly OCD person, I empathise with the easy-feeling precision. Some day …

I don't know how this happened. I searched on YouTube "Walnut Furniture" and this video was one on the first page. So, I watched it and immediately Subscribed. I was originally going to build some furniture of my own (and I still might) but after watching this video, I find it more cathartic to buy furniture from you. I don't know your rates or your bookings but I wholeheartedly plan on purchasing some pieces from you. I can't wait to see some of your work in-person and I hope for you to be taking my money very soon. Keep up the great work.

Just a curious observer. You have every tool and a incredible shop. I build homes and do alot of custom woodwork and I see this and wonder 'where do you get all the money for this'. Woodworking does not pay that well. What do you do for a living? Don't take this the wrong way but I can only imagine you either have a tech job that pays very well or you came into money through family or lottery. I've been working for 25 years doing this and have only scars and a crooked back. What's your secret?

I've noticed your pads slip a little when jointing. I saw a tip on one of the magazines to screw some truss mending plates (available at any home center) to the bottoms. This really eliminated the issue for me. I had thought it would leave marks in the wood, but it never has. It may be not needing to push down so hard (which is also safer). Might be worth a shot, worked for me.
