How to build a picture frame deck

A picture frame deck can make a decking project look much neater as it creates a frame around the edge of the deck so that no cut ends are visible. In this video a single frame is used but you can use a few frames on a single deck to get the effect that you want. How to fit the joists is covered in another video.

need a bit of improvement on your biscuit technique, but im sure you will get better if you need to do a lot of them. Nice deck though, its worth the extra work, nothing worse than weak loose decking or an ugly job.

Nice, that will keep the fox poop out.
Personally I leave a 6mm gap between the mitres of the picture frame for water drainage and timber expansion. A drop of end grain preservative, even on pressure treated timber, extends the life of the deck. Any gap bigger than 6mm between boards can let the heel of a ladies shoe get caught.
I am looking forward to seeing the mechanism.

The retractable sandbox cover is simply awesome. I could catch what you said you used for spacers. Bad hearing. Played it several times and I couldn't quite make it out. Could you spell it out for me?

There seems to be a lot debate on youtube on the correct way to install decking board.
Alot say that the groves are drainage to protect the joists, and should be placed the opposite way up to what you have, While others say that the groves are grips for walking on.

I'm sure it's not really an issue or concern, but wouldn't it be more accurate to change your calculation as follows: (Area-Gap)/(BoardWidth+Gap).  So (3325-8)/(150+8).  7mm gap = 21.134.  8mm gap = 20.994.  This allows for the fact that there is a gap at the beginning and the end of the boards, not just one end.  Edit, for some reason I can't use line breaks

Brilliant video. And well done for mentioning to use exterior screws. I've witnessed so many idiots on and off sites use any damn screws for decking and other outdoor jobs, then few weeks later the screws and materials are rusty brown!
By the way would you happen to have a video of how to put sliding door for a new shower enclosure?

    Nice vid
    Very informative
Especially the calcs for the gaps
I usually lay out the boards on site to work out the gaps
Your way is easier and I buy the right amount of boards rather than have one short or one spare in the process
    Thanks

Excellent demonstration of proper assembly, however…..
Those deck boards/ planks are absolutely BAD BAD BAD with those channel grooves.
Why ? When it rains the water will sit until it evaporates. If it's cloudy for several days water will sit even longer. I give it 2 seasons max before it starts splintering.
