Apple wood (or any fruit tree, for that matter) is really well suited to the lathe – similar to cherry (duh). I've turned apple and pear with some very nice results. One comment when cutting cookies on the band saw, though – please use a V-block sled. You were extremely lucky that little log didn't catch the blade and cause an accident. I see this all the time – folks cutting rounds on the band saw without a v-block and it just makes me cringe.

Apple has been used in furniture, utensils, framing, decoration, etc. For hundreds if not thousands of years. Nice grain patterns and very strong indeed.

Nice Steve, I like the candle stand and the waterfall of wax. I was thinking if the base were larger (oblong) you could have a reservoir of wax in the base like a small pool. Maybe have some different color waxes stirred around in a marble or spiral pattern would make a neat affect.

I think the reason people don't use a lot of woods is because the way they grow only provides for smaller pieces of lumber. I personally, like to use Crape Myrtle. I think my peach tree out back got hit by lightning. If it doesn't make it, I'll be glad to see what it's got under the bark.

Hi steve. I want to take out I mean carve out the center of my logs which have 50 mm diameter so what chisel should I use to carve it? A bended chisel? Because it is narrow and I think the straight ones wont work. I will make a succulent planter out of them. Thanks
